Audition Call: June 26 & 27
Transgression presents: Second Star to the Right
Deer Bear Wolf is seeking actors of various backgrounds with improvisation skills for our newest installment of our Transgression series, based on J.M. Barrie’s classic, Peter Pan. The performance will be a three part series (coined “Episodic Theatre”). THIS ROUND OF AUDITIONS IS ONLY FOR THE SECOND PART OF THE SERIES.
Deer Bear Wolf’s Transgression started as a reading series showcasing Atlanta’s talented writers whilst challenging the perception of the written word. It's an immersive experience where the venue is transformed into the setting of the story at hand, and the writers are tasked with taking on the characters they've written about. Named Atlanta’s Best Literary Event in 2015 by Creative Loafing,
In 2017, Transgression is redirecting to focus on immersive theatrical experiences based on original scripts inspired by literary classics.
Performances will be held August 16, 25 and 26 at artist Peter Bahouth’s iconic treehouses in Buckhead, with rehearsals in the two weeks prior to the event. A schedule will be provided at auditions.
A stipend will be provided.
Please prepare a one minute monologue of your choosing, keeping in mind the characters described below. Sides will be provided at the audition for cold reading.
Email a head shot and resumé to firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve an audition time.
Audition location information will be provided when your time is confirmed.
(Set in modern time and all characters are gender neutral)
Humble and out of luck, clumsy and very silly, Tootles somehow manages to always miss the adventure -- all the cool stuff seems to happen the second he leaves the room! Tootles ain’t sour about it, though. Tootles is the one who shoots Wendy with a bow and arrow after Tinker Bell tells them Wendy is a bird that Peter wants killed. When Tootles realises his mistake, he asks Peter to kill him. Wendy however survives, and Tootles is spared.
He’s the first to defend Wendy when she wants to return to London. When Peter takes possession of "The Jolly Roger", Captain Hook's pirate ship, Tootles takes Smee's place as boatswain. At the end of the novel, he returns to London with Wendy and the other lost boys and eventually grows up to become a judge. Improvisational skills required.
Nibs has mad swagger and is incredibly brave -- maybe even the bravest Lost Boy. He doesn’t remember much of his past. His mom always wanted a checkbook, but Nibs never figured out what exactly that was.
Eventually he grows up to work in an office. But for now, he’s the most brazen of Lost Boys. Improvisational skills required.
Slightly is . . . slightly full of himself. He’s a little cocky because he remembers life before Neverland. The weird thing is, his memories aren’t exactly consistent or . . . make much sense.
Case-point, he claims to know what his last name is because his pinafore had the words "Slightly Soiled" written on the tag. He’s not great at imagining things but can play a good tune and is an incredible whistler. Someday he’ll marry rich, but he doesn’t know that yet. Improvisational skills required.
Curly is a pickle. As in, he’s always getting into pickles (but also, he really loves pickles). Not the brightest crayon in the box, what Curly lacks in smarts he offers in charm and loveability. Someday he’ll be a desk jockey. Improvisational skills required.
First and Second Twin know little about themselves as they are not allowed to because Peter Pan does not know what Twins are, and no Lost Boy is allowed to know anything that Peter doesn't. The Twins grow up to work in an office. Improvisational skills required.
Extra Lost Boys (5-6 people)
Are you a hooligan? Can you play tunes? Do you live in the fray and love a good food fight? We might need you. Improvisational skills required.
