Vera Vera’s Jordan Parker is set to release the debut EP from his latest project, Mara, on Deer Bear Wolf Records. Parker wrote the songs on the Mara EP alone in his bedroom, channeling the dark vibes of Vera Vera into a more intimate and ethereal sound that he describes as “Phantom Pop” or “Garage Gaze.” The six song collection showcases Parker’s most mature and compelling songwriting yet.

On Tuesday, November 25th, Mara will be the fifth release from Deer Bear Wolf Records. The EP will be available as a CD and a limited edition tape cassette.

That night, the record release will be celebrated with a free show at 529. The line-up includes Mara, Highlander, Semicircle, and e.t. anderson (South Carolina).

The first single from Mara, “Diamonds,” is now streaming on soundcloud:

DEER BEAR WOLF PROCLAIMS MATT DEBENEDICTIS AS CURATOR OF PRESS

Matt DeBenedictis will become Curator of newly minted Deer Bear Wolf Press beginning in early 2015. DeBenedictis has authored three chapbooks, including Congratulations! There’s No Last Place If Everyone Is Dead, and founded the Safety Third Enterprises Press in 2009.

Deer Bear Wolf Press has two chapbooks already slated for release in the spring of 2015, and more works are expected in the coming year. Laura Relyea’s All Glitter, Everything is the wondrous chapbook of tributes and sugar from the creator of Vouched Books. The work sold out during its first run with Safety Third. The acclaimed chapbook will be re-printed by Deer Bear Wolf Press and plans to include 18 additional stories and new artwork by Brett Miotti. Also upcoming is a collection of new literature from Write Club Atlanta, “a lit kick to the back of the skull” that spars monthly at The Highland Ballroom. DeBenedictis promised that it’ll bleed ink within its pages.

Safety Third published ten chapbooks in its five years. Authors include J. Bradley, Mel Bosworth, John Carroll, Tom Cheshire, Tyler Gobble, Frank Hinton, Laura Relyea and xTx. Frank Hinton’s I Don’t Respect Female Expression and xTx’s He Is Talking to The Fat Lady both sold out of their first press run in less than 24 hours, and Hinton’s I Don’t Respect Female Expression was awarded the 2011 Best Alt Lit Chapbook Award by Alt Lit Gossip.

DeBenedictis’ Safety Third hosted The March to the Sea Tour in 2013. The tour lauded the second press of Carroll’s chapbook, Slow Burn, which sold out on tour and featured readings by John Carroll, Scott Daughtridge, and Matt DeBenedictis.

How To Survive Being Human - An Experiment in Three Acts @ Big House On Ponce

"Anna, a woman whose anxiety can create lightning storms and stop time, Frog, a man who is struggling with his sudden transition from frog to human, and God on a beach...with a piña colada. "How to Survive Being Human," is a play about the 21st century. What does it mean to be in a place of forward movement, but not knowing if it is the right direction; of being afraid of changing one's personal course in life amid the expectations we have grown up with? The play is about you, me, and everyone we know, trying to find our way through this new era of careers, communications, and social-dynamics. Comedic and poignant, sad and exhilarating, beautiful and dangerous, all hosted inside the 1920's residence of The Big House, a nearly 100 year old travelers inn and rumored former Masonic initiation house. "How To Survive Being Human" is an operations manual for a world floating on a sea of constant immediate change, with questions of technology, social manners, and individual purpose. Nov 13th - 15th & Nov. 20th - 22nd, Show Starts at 8pm each night"

P A N D R O G E N Y // Experiments in Identity @ Erikson Clock

"P A N D R O G E N Y | Experiments in Identity opens at Erikson Clock on Friday November 14th with a live performance by Branden Collins in full costume, dancing through the space. The exhibition runs through Sunday November 30th. Pandrogeny is the conscious embracing of gender roles, sexual orientations, or cultural traditions so as to render the person's original identity completely indecipherable. It is the “third gender” as it is sometimes referred to, a type of gender-neutral living being more akin to the OTHER, or internal self. Pandrogeny is not about defining differences but about creating similarities, not about separation but about unification and resolution. Branden is a designer with Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, collaborator and performer."

SEX BBQ, HELLO COBRA, TWIN TIGERS @ 529

"Twin Tigers Formed by co-workers at the Michael Stipe-owned Grit restaurant, guitarist/vocalist Matthew Rain and bassist Aimee Morris began Twin Tigers as their previous bands dissolved. In February 2008,Curious Faces / Violet Future EP was released to great reviews. The band quickly started building a solid fan base throughout the southeast and played shows with Deerhunter, Dead Confederate, Jay Reatard, Black Lips, Dungen, Woods, Snowden and A Place to Bury Strangers. SEX BBQ After two years making a name for themselves in the DIY trenches, playing shows heralded initially for their chaotic, train-off-the-tracks abandon, SEX BBQ has gone on to share bills with buzzing indie darlings and celebrated veterans alike, from Hospitality, Beach Day, Little Tybee and Concord America to Belle & Sebastian. The band formed in 2012 after skateboarding, guitar-playing neuropsychologist Kate moved from New York to Atlanta and met former Paste magazine editor Steve LaBate at a Braves/Mets baseball game. Before long, the two new friends began recording acoustic demos in Jan's apartment. With new music written, they began seeking out a collective of musicians to bring their songs to life.  Hello Cobra A four piece collective, with members from all walks of music. They all bring a unique style and idea to the group, forming an intricate and complex dynamic."

glo PERFORMANCE @ The Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia - MOCA GA

"Join glo for a performance on Friday, November 14th from 7-9pm Free and open to the public ARTIST STATEMENT gestures that soon will disappear: 4th BODY constructs a hybrid form that experiments with new ways of performance inhabiting art spaces, and is a MOCA GA premiere, created by Lauri Stallings in collaboration with glo and Paper-Cut-Project. The exhibition is composed of assemblies of ephemera, sound, video, paper and human interaction deployed through performative forms such as migrating choirs, anthems, and moving sculptures, striving to rethink performance in museums as a creative experience for surprise response and shifting forms. In dialogue with MOCA GA’s main galleries, the artist fills the museum and spiraling staircases with 4TH BODY, phase II of the work, originally a public work (ROMANTIC BODY, July 2014) that embodies the poles of Stallings practice: participation and choreographic. The work begins the moment people encounter it, and is presented continuously during the operating hours of the museum, persisting over time, to produce meaning and value through action, rather than objects."

Book of Colors at Smith's Olde Bar @ Smith's Olde Bar

"Did you miss us at Corndogorama this past weekend? Don't worry, there's still time to redeem yourself as our #1 fan because Book of Colors is playing a show this weekend! OMG you're so lucky!!! We will be joined by Adam Klein & The Wild Fires and Lilly Hiatt, which is also great news. It's going to be a really fun night and we're going to be playing a bunch of new material, so this is definitely one of those events worth putting pants on for (or not, whatever, we're not one of those judgy bands)."
