DBW Weekly

Welcome to Deer Bear Wolf Weekly. Every Monday from now on, this page will contain recommendations of Atlanta art, music, and lit events for the coming week. It will also showcase art, music, or literature recently released by local artists.

There's a ton going on this Valentine's week, so this first edition of DBW Weekly will focus solely on highlighting some of the more interesting events.

Monday, Feb 10:

100 Watt Horse // Highlander // Nadia Marie // Years @ 529

This is the most intriguing local show of the week for me. I'm excited to see all four acts. 100 Watt Horse is the solo project of Wowser Bowser's George Pettis, and this show will see the debut of a full band lineup. Highlander came out of nowhere last year, and their single "Blankets" was one of my favorite locally released songs of 2013. Nadia Marie is formerly of Curio Museum, and she plays a harp, which is awesome. And Years features members of two Atlanta faves, Hello Ocho and Small Reactions.

SUPREMATI'CISM: an exhibition of cultural and aesthetic whiteness @ The Low Museum

The name of the exhibition is a portmanteau of "Suprematism" and [white] "Supremacy". The term SUPREMATISM, coined by russian painter/theorist Kasmir Malevich, refers to an abstract art based upon “the supremacy of pure artistic feeling” rather than on visual depiction of objects. One of Malevich's most famous suprematist works "White on White", is a painting of a white square on a white background. WHITE SUPREMACY is the belief of, and/or promotion of the belief, that white people are superior to people of other racial backgrounds. SUPREMATI'CISM juxtaposes the cultural meme of white supremacy with the artistic meme of white as neutral, invisible, pure, etc.
Featuring works by Sophia Frissell, Devidyal Givens, Charity Harris, Nate Hill, Theodore McLee, Rebecca Price, Estela Semeco, Marcus Tanner, Beau Torres, Laura Vela, Patricia Villafane

(RESCHEDULED FOR FEB 18) Writers Exchange @ The Goat Farm Arts Center

Writers Exchange allows writers to share work aloud for 10 minutes and get impressions, observations and analysis from other writers for 5 minutes. All genres and disciplines are welcome. Both inexperienced as well as practiced writers are encouraged to attend. It's an opportunity to connect with other Atlanta writers and experiment with different voices and different genres.

Clan Destined | Dropout | deadCAT | Hosted by Dillon @ 529

Hey guys and gals! Two of your favorite bartenders got jacked and lost everthing they had. This show is to help them get back on their feet.
We've got an awesome line up including deadCAT, Dropout, and a Clan Destined reunion! (Say what!) DJ Set and hosting by Dillon!
