Record of the Week: Precious Places EP by Twin Studies
One of the reasons that this city's music community is so vibrant is that every year talented new artists seem to come from nowhere and leave their mark on the scene. And with their debut EP, Twin Studies have already established themselves as one of the more promising local artists to emerge in 2014. With a palette of dreamy, nostalgic sounds, they manage to carve out a memorable sonic experience in a mere four songs, which is a rare feat. For fans of Wild Nothing and Still Corners, this will be an essential summer record. Stream Precious Places below, and see them Friday (May 2) night at the Mammal Gallery.

Cinemammal Night @ The Mammal Gallery
"There will be a FREE night of cinema, local and non local, that's right FREE at the Mammal Gallery on Monday the 28th. Beginning at 8 with an hour long block of local shorts films (open submission, filmmakers read below) followed by a feature length screening of this months mystery film (in latin, the film might be called "wild cordi" *cough*-google translate) by a director some might describe as Lynchian. Figure it out. It's not that hard, really-and if you can't ask somebody."
Tuesday, April 29:
A Reading Thing @ Decatur Library
"After two full-length collections of fiction that mixed his irreverent treatment of form and gritty real-life candor, Jamie Iredell delivers an assured and honest collection of personal essays. I Was a Fat Drunk Catholic School Insomniac reveals a writer who takes on his (literal) highs and (existential) lows with the unembellished voice of an anthropologist. Erudite, funny, and fearless, Iredell dives into subjects like drugs, alcoholism, body image, racism, feminism, and religion, and shines a light on some of the darkest moments of life. The essays are personal, confessional, and ultimately full of hope."
